WP1 Business Models and Sustainable Architecture

The objective of Work Package 1 is to ensure coherency and sustainability of the different elements developed in VOICES by evaluating in their impact in the course of the project. As a backbone of the VOICES project, WP1 will receive inputs from WP2, WP3, WP4, WP5, and WP6, keep track of key functionalities of the VOICES building blocks, and update them throughout the 2 cycles of the project. The overarching role gives WP1 the key responsibility of the overall sustainability of the VOICE project.

WP1 will identify use cases and scenarios based on the input of WP4 and WP5, and from there derive business models and requirements, taking into account the local context in developing regions. Use cases will capture the particularities/requirements of on-going activities in the agriculture sector in the Sahel region (WP4) and in the health sector in Senegal (WP5).

Different business models will be compared by considering the experiences of the stakeholders (NGOs, operators) involved in the project and introducing concepts developed in other contexts (e.g., social media) or sectors (e.g., energy). Social sustainability will also be taken into account (and monitored) by identifying the most appropriate methodologies to introduce the different VOICES services. As an example, co-creation is envisioned to be used to ensure maximum ownership and WP1 will ensure that these principles are followed in the course of the project.

Futhermore, a framework of assessing the impact of each service will be developed and used during the two cycles of VOICES. A base line study will be realized that captures the difference stages of advancement of the 2 pilot WPs (WP4, WP5) and the assessment framework will be carried out in cooperation with partners of WP4 and WP5.

Finally, as building blocks of the VOICES vision will be developed in a number of WPs (WP2, WP3), WP1 will ensure coherency between then by drafting and continuously improving an overall architecture.
